Discovery Flight
| To enable a prospective student to experience the ‘Thrill of Flying’ we offer a one time only ‘Discovery Flight’. During this flight, you will have the opportunity to actually fly a Cessna 152 aircraft yourself under the supervision of a Professional Flight Instructor. This flight includes a pre-flight briefing, a flight of approximately 30 minutes, and a post-flight review. The cost of this is $65.00 plus GST. | ![]() |
Recreational Pilot Permit Training Program

Flight Training: |
|
|
A minimum of 25 hours of flight time must be acquired. This flight time consists of a minimum of
15 hours Dual and 5 hours Solo flight time. During this training you will gain experience on
pre-flight inspection, aircraft ground handling, basic emergency procedures, take-off, landing,
radio procedures, and other related exercises. There is no instrument or spin training required. The
prerequisite for this program is a Category IV Medical which can be completed with your own physician,
and the minimum age to obtain this Permit is 16 years. These lessons will train you for your flight
test, which is conducted here, at Spectrum Airways. |

Ground School: |
|
|
There is no ground school requirement for the RPP, however you may choose to take our Private
Pilot Ground School. Our program includes the comprehensive
Private Pilot Ground School Course, consisting of 16 sessions taking 3 hours per session, and is held
in the classroom facilities at the airport. Ground School is not a prerequisite for flight training. This
Power Point course will help you to learn everything that is required for your written test. |

Examinations: |
|
|
A Transport Canada Flight Test and Written Examination are required, and must be completed within twenty-four
months of one another. The flight test is administered by a Spectrum Airways examiner on staff. The written
examination is conducted at a
Transport Canada
office. |
|
|
Restrictions: |
|
Pilots who complete this permit will be subject to certain restrictions that licenced pilots are not. Some of
these restrictions are as follows:

Private Pilot Licence Training Program
|
Flight Training: |
|

A minimum of 45 hours of flight time must be acquired. This flight time consists of a minimum of 17 hours DUAL
and 12 hours SOLO flight time. The remainder of this time is completed under the supervision of your flight
instructor. During this training, you will gain experience on pre-flight inspection, aircraft ground handling,
emergency procedures, take-off, landing, radio procedures, cross country navigation, instrument, and other
related exercises. The prerequisite for this program is the Category III Medical administered by a Transport
Canada authorized Medical Examiner, and the minimum age to obtain this licence is 17 years. These lessons will
train you for your flight test, which is conducted here, at Spectrum Airways. |

Ground School: |
|
|
A minimum of 40 hours of ground school sessions is required. Our comprehensive ground school course consists of
16 sessions, taking 3 hours per session, and is held in the classroom facilities at the airport. Ground School
