Commercial Pilot Program

Flight Training

The prerequisite for this program is a Private Pilot Licence, and you must be 18 years of age and have a Category I Medical before completion. To complete this program you must have a minimum of 200 hours of flight time, of which 100 hours must be as pilot-in-command, and 20 hours which must be cross-country.

DUAL-35 hours minimum
SOLO-30 hours minimum

  • 20 hours of instrument instruction
  • 25 hours solo practice including a flight
  • 5 hours of cross-country to a point at least 300 nautical miles from a point of departure with 3 stops en route
  • 5 hours of night flying (including 2 hours of night cross-country) - 5 hours solo night flying
  • 10 of the 20 hours of instrument training may be completed on the flight simulator located at Spectrum Airways

Ground School

A minimum of 80 hours of ground school sessions is required. See our Commercial Course Outline for details. It is held in the classroom facilities at the airport. Ground School is not a prerequisite for flight training.

Examinations

A Transport Canada Flight Test and Written Examination are required. The Flight Test is administered by a Transport Canada examiner. The written examination is conducted at a Transport Canada office.
